Trying to simplify Store setup with a registration redirect

  • speckledbird

    Hello, my website is handsoaped.com. Makery is a beautiful theme. thank you.

    My question is simple. I have setup two pages:
    http://handsoaped.com/store-setup/
    http://handsoaped.com/product-setup/

    I want to redirect the user to /store-setup/ after registration.
    Then I want to redirect the user to /product-setup/ after store has been saved.

    Please help, because I am losing all my soap makers in the registration process. They just stop because it is frustrating for them.

    I was able to redirect all author archives to http://handsoaped.com/store-setup/ using this code:

    // Redirect all author archives to the website’s about page
    add_filter(‘author_link’, ‘ehi_author_link’);
    function ehi_author_link()
    {
    return home_url(‘/store-setup/’);
    }

    However, this should only be done if they don’t have a store setup.

    Now, I need to redirect them to setup products after store submission.

    Well, the biggest issue ihor is that right now when they register, they are getting any kind of indication at all, that they are even logged in. They are redirected to some author page that is pointless for them them? How can I funnel them in a way that they start making their profile right away, once they logged in. I have even disabled email verification and captcha, just so I can make this easier for them. I am loosing 80% of my soap makers in this broken process.

    I also removed the entire shop approval process so that it makes it easier. But I can’t even get them to the shop creating process because they have no way of getting there.

    Could I restore email verification, and then add a “If you are a shop owner, start your store here” link or button to the “An email has been sent to your email. Please verify your email” Message?

    Then I could also add that message “Add your first product” to the text you were talking about. “Your shop is currently being reviewed” text. And from registration, it would take them to create a store. And once they submitted a store, I could take them to create first product.

    Where do you edit this test?

    I mean text

    What if I ask them?

    I could wrap my redirect in an if and then statement to check if a shop has been submitted by that account. If the account does not have a shop, the author page is then set to redirect to a special page. In a question funnel, I ask if they are a soap maker or a consumer. One button that says “I sell soap” and another button for “I buy soap”.

    If they click “I sell soap”, they are directed to edit their shop.
    If they click “I buy soap” they are directed to the /shop/.

    SO it would effectively be:

    //If and then statement to check if store is created

    add_filter(‘author_link’, ‘ehi_author_link’);
    function ehi_author_link()
    {
    return home_url(‘/question-funnel/’);
    }

    //Close if and then statement

    I just don’t know what that would be.

    Thank you for the response. This is a very helpful suggestion. Thank you.

    Do you have any suggestions on how I would write the code for buttons “Setup Shop” and “Add Products” on this new landing page?

    Then on the right side, I guess I will give a customer the redirect button to shop, like you suggested.

    Also, if I reinstate moderation, where can I edit the text for “This shop is currently being reviewed” to add a suggestion to “add your first product”?

    I have added the redirect with two columns with “I want to sell soap” and “I want to buy soap” buttons. Buy soap goes to the shop page, obviously. I want to sell goes to the shop settings page, which prompts them to create the store.

    Now, you had suggested adding a button in the header that walks them through this process. How do you suggest the easiest place in the code to add this new header nav for store owners?

    How would you suggest

    speckledbird

    I don’t necessarily like that keeping store moderation keeps them from adding products until the store is approved.

    If I disable store approval, is there a way to simply redirect them to “/shop-products/” after they set up their store for the first time? So they would automatically be redirected after clicking “save settings”
