Customizing a seach/match form within profiles

  • jphenriksandberg

    Hi

When a user is signed in to his/her profile…there is a search field…but no options.

    Two questions:

    1. How can I add some options, e.g ‘looking for’ friend; girlfriend, etc and another ‘age’ from x; to y; and ‘interest’ text field…?
And then perhaps just a search button instead of a field?

    2. if you do not sign in…you can’t make a search on mobile device.
    Can this be fixed?

    3. How can I ad an option ‘both’ to the front page search looking for ‘man’, ‘woman’ ‘both’? And can I ad another ‘text field option’ in front page search bar? e.g i am ‘man’ looking for ‘both’ age from ’30’ to ’50’ interests ‘golf, tennis’?

hmmm…maybe I don’t understand what you are trying to tell me as no. 1, so let me turn it around…to be more clear…in my saved profile I managed to ad some custom fields…so thats ok…BUT…if you look further down…you will notice the search field with the placeholder text ‘Search’…and what would a user be writing in this field? No matter what I write…nothing happens!? And there is no search button related to the field, so to me it maked no sence to have the sesrch field…and THAT’S why I asked if I could attatch/create some custom fields related to the search and turn the search field into a seach button in stead…this would make sence and perhaps even come up with some results of the search…

As for no. 2…thanks I’ll try my best

    3. thanks..I managed to put in additional custom fields

    4. ok thanks…i’ll try

To sum up…I still need and answe to no. 1….or at least a good explanation of what to do with a search field which is of absolutely no use as it is.

    hi again

I’m sorry…I just found out that by replacing the ‘search’ widget with ‘Profile search’ widget I got exactly what I wanted.

However, this leads me to another question…if I am a ‘Man’….I only get female results in search matches.

    But I have mad an option ‘seeking a’ friend; date;

So when I make a search I receive only females seeking e.g friend….however, it is likely that even though I am a man…I would also like to find male friends….how can I make this possible?

    And…can I add a front page search bar option ‘seeking a’ friend; date;

Here is my dream setup search option:

I am a ‘My Gender’ searching for a ‘Gender’ (new option): ‘for’ options: friendship; dating age ‘min age’ ‘max age’

    How do I make this?

and last question…I hope…how do I remove/hide the fields ‘Country’ and ‘City’ in the Profile search widget?

correction to dream scenario front page search bar:

I am a collector (no options) seeking a ‘options=woman, man, person’ (the match being whatever the other profiles have set in this non optional field in their profile) age from ‘min age’ to ‘max age’

This would mean that new profiles do NOT have to set ‘Gender’….they are all just collectors by default. And searches should match the option chosen under ‘Seaking a’ in stead.

    How do I do this?

What if I hide the field ‘Gender’ so users do not need to set their gender…no need for it….they are all just ‘collectors’….this leaves only the field ‘Seeking a’ (with the options man, woman, person)….which would then be matched with the searches.

    This is an example:

I am looking for a (options: man, woman, person) for (options: friendship, dating) from (min. age) to (max age).

Please do NOT tell me that this is not possible – that would mean I bought the wrong theme template 😱😱😱

    hi again

Thanks, I will. Actually there is a checkbox to hide the gender field but this does not solve my problem…its apparently rather complicated.

I will try to explain what it is, that I would like the user to be able to do:

Imagine I am a male collector (‘samler’ in Danish), and I am looking for friendship with BOTH ‘men’ and ‘women’….how would I make this search in the present system set up?

It seems that if you are a man, you will automaticly get female/women results.

I need to be able to make a search for matches which will present me with both women and men for freindship.

Perhaps the solution is to add the option ‘both’ to the field ‘seeking’….this way I would be presented with results from all profiles ( men and women) who chose this option for their profile.

I hope this made sense and that you can help me.

Also, I would like to hide ONLY the ‘country’ field…how do I do this?

I will mail you wp login for the site…and I’ve made a child theme and activated it…AND made a copy of everything so you can’t really do anything wrong 😊

I would very much appreciate if you would add the option ‘friend’…I think that might do the job…please let me know when this is done…thanks.

    jphenriksandberg

actually….maybe in stead of ‘friend’…could you name it ‘collector’ ?
