Customer vs Subscriber

  • Omid

    Hi there

I have finally sold my first plan to a new student, who then could not access the courses, even having been automatically been enrolled into all of them, including its parent plan (I’ve checked).

In the USER section, I’ve noticed that he was registered as ‘Customer’ and I’ve changed that to ‘Subscriber’. I remember that this has worked in the past, with another student having the same problem, although I’m not sure which one is correct.

    Here are the questions:
    1. When a Student enrolls into a course directly, should he be Customer or Subscriber?
    2. And when he enrolls into a plan? Customer or Subscriber?
    3. Most of them appear as ‘Subscribers’, but why do some appear as ‘Customer’?
    3. If the student needs to be ‘Subscriber’, how can I prevent the other options? At this time, most students are enrolled into courses, most of them as ‘Subscriber’ and some as ‘Customer’.

P.s.: in my Configuration, I have configured that New Users should be ‘Subscribers’, but that did not work for the student mentioned above, who bought the plan.

Please let me know, to avoid possible problems with the prospective students.

    Thanks, Omid

    Hi there

Thanks for the answers, which make complete sense.

BUT: when a user is enrolled as ‘customer’, he does not have access to the courses. It has happened before with a student, who was enrolled into a single course and was only able to access, once I’ve changed his status from Customer to Subscriber.

Yesterday, the same thing happened, but this time with a plan and automatic enrollment. The student shows up enrolled in all the classes and the parent plan, but has no access to any of the courses enrolled. Only changing his status to Subscriber resolved this issue.

    Possible solutions:
    1. is there a way that customers also have access to the courses/plans?
    2. or, is there a way to eliminate the customer role all together or force new clients to become Subscribers by default?

Please let me know, as I still need a workable solution for this.

    Thanks, Omid.

I’ve found out that the ‘Customer’ can indeed access all courses, single or within a Plan. The problem is other: the ‘Customer’ cannot access the Profile Page.

To make sure: I have created a new user, changed his status to ‘Customer’, added him to a plan and had the same experience as my students: whenever I click on the Profile, it goes first to …/perfil/username (username being the one I’ve created), but then instantly and automatically switches to …/shop.

I wonder if it has to do with the Product Permalinks, in Configurations. They were set to …/shop. I’ve now changed it to the default, but I still cannot access the Profile page.

The only thing that I could do was changing the ‘Customer’ to ‘Subscriber’ status and voilá, everything worked as it should. I could access the Profile page and from there my courses.

I’m sure that I’m doing something wrong in some configuration for this to happen.

Please let me know. Thanks! Omid.

I’ve found the answer: I had to cancel the redirect, which is addressed in this link:

For some reasons this redirect only happened with customers.
