Academy Theme and Duplicating Courses/Lessons for Plans Feedback

  • darcn

    Hi,

A few months ago we migrated our training site to use the Academy theme and overall we are happy with the results. However, the biggest issue is how the courses and plans work. If I want an individual course to be included in a plan, then I have to duplicate that same course (and lessons) to be used for a plan. So, if I have 100 courses, I would need to duplicate them giving me a total of 200 courses. If there are 500 lessons, it would be a 1000 lessons. There is a lot of content of duplication. I should be able to create a single course that can either be purchased individually or is included within a bundle/plan.

You have to admit as a developer that this isn’t an efficient way to manage courses by duplicating everything? And this function with the Academy them has been like this for several years without any change even with the number of feedback from your customers.

Are there any serious plans for revamping this theme or creating an “Academy Pro” theme with a higher price point that is more efficient for course and plan management?

    Thanks!

    Michel

Ihor, is there any way you can publish these kinds of code customizations? There are a number of these small issues that limit the utility of Academy theme, and I suspect some of us are happy to pay for a means to address these issues.

ihor, but the problem with that suggestion is that a user can only be signed up for one subscription at any given time. I tested that out before to get around this limitation.

For example, let’s say we have 10 individual courses that are enabled as subscriptions. And a user signs up for course1, they are added to that plan. However, if they sign up for course2, they will be removed from course1 and added to course2 instead. Not both course1 and course2.

If there is a different way how the Academy theme can be setup to support a user signed up for multiple individual courses (enabled as subscriptions), we would be eager to learn how to set that up? Thanks!

Thanks for the info ihor. I dedicated to create a Python app on the backend to interact with the database to handle all of my issues with the course and plan management.
